ABOUT

Since 1972 that Benno Sökeland spuns a large-scale painting projects from his activities as a roaming solitar. The Geman-born artist Benno Sökeland painted with different styles, with different compositions, that helped him to unlock many doors. Creating a connection between Neo- Surrealism, Modernism and Hyper-realism. Rich dreams with originality and elusive figuration.

Bright colors highlighted with white and grey that lend depth, multiple points of view, undulating light and objects close to the surface - almost real for guest view. On this two works, about Coca-Cola brand, Benno wants to offer same visual dreams that he sees in his dreams or from the subconscious mind, such as in advertising. For him paintings must have a great power, brilliance and impact as advertising that attracts the same fascination. Associations broached by Surrealism and Pop Art.

Benno born in 1956, in Warendorf, Germany. Studied Design at  Fachhochschule University. He already exhibited in Brazil, Germany, US , France, United Kingdom and Spain.

Benno often works on templates from the media and thus reaches the reference to the current world. Some pictures have a time-critical or even political component. In the great figurative works he paints contemporary individuals who are placed in the composition in a kind of collage. In some paintings, the figures leave the two-dimensional canvas and appear in front of the painting as painted figures made of plywood, which gives a three-dimensional effect. In a recent series he paints portraits of singers. In another experimental series he takes industrial mass packagings to pour with plaster, to stick to the images and to paint with oxidation colors. In mixed media paintings he works objects such as can lids into the images.
