The temporary exhibition, Be it day or night, it matters not was the starting point for a family morning at the Museum. The team from the Education Service led a tour, which included paintings by Pedro Calapez and photographs by André Gomes, of the works of Artur Loureiro, a 19th century naturalist painter featured in the Soares dos Reis National Museum collection. Throughout the visit, families carried out activities that brought adults and children together, enabling highly personal imagery to be built around the exhibition content.

«Pedro Calapez. Selected Works, 1992-2004»
Solo exhibition by artist Pedro Calapez (1953), which presented an anthology of twelve years of work. It revealed the expansiveness of line, stain and color that characterizes the artist's work, often leading the pictorial medium to three-dimensional structures and a pressing dialogue with architectural space.

EXHIBITION ´PEDRO CALAPEZ. FROM THIS SPACE OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS'
Initiating his artistic path through drawing, Pedro Calapez affirmed himself as a painter in the early 1980s, constructing a body of work that combines both practices in space and time. The exhibition 'Pedro Calapez. 'From This Space of Light and Darkness' brings together a selection of works from the Serralves Collection and the artist’s Collection underlining the complementary relationship between painting and drawing that grounds his artistic practice.
Including works never shown before, the exhibition moves away from the universe of colour to reveal other foundational aspects of Calapez’ practice, rooted in dialogues established with art history, literature, and architecture. Historical works representative of different periods of his artistic career are presented together with recent works that highlight lines of continuity in his practice over more than 40 years. The works presented here emerge 'from this space of light and darkness' that punctuates the artist’s palimpsestic path, forever incomplete and forever in motion.
The exhibition is part of the Touring Exhibitions Programme of the Serralves Collection, which aims to make the Foundation’s collection accessible to different audiences across the country.
