With a degree in Physics and a specialization in Physical Optics, Almeida delved into the intricate principles governing image delivery through optical instrumentation. While her career trajectory veered away from the realm of physical optics, her fascination with the interplay of light and imagery persisted, leading her to explore the realm of photography.
Despite possessing technical proficiency in the mechanics of photography, both analog and digital, Almeida sensed a void in images obtained solely through technical means—an absence of soul that hindered their ability to connect with viewers on a deeper level. Seeking to imbue her work with a sense of emotional resonance, she embarked on a journey to complement her technical expertise with a deeper understanding of artistic expression.
Drawing inspiration from luminaries such as Josef Albers and the Op Art movement, Almeida incorporates elements of refraction and reflection into her artwork, infusing her compositions with a mesmerizing interplay of light and form. Through meticulous experimentation and exploration, she harnesses the power of color theory to create visually dynamic and illusionistic effects that captivate the imagination.
