Biography 


Pedro Calapez is a Portuguese visual artist from the Washington Color School movement, born in Lisbon in 1953. He began participating in exhibitions in the 70s, but it was from the 80s onwards that he began a nationally and internationally recognized career as a painter – after having worked as a photographer and set designer.

Pedro Calapez work was exhibited in several galleries and museums and representation including those of the Secretary of State for Culture, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Luso-American Foundation, Serralves Museum, Berardo Museum,Chase Manhattan Bank, in New York, and Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, in Mallorca, Spain. Pedro represented Portugal with his work at the Venice Biennale . Major art commissions include the Church of the Holy Trinity in Fátima and Expo 98.
