Biography

Carol Welsch was born and is based in Barcelona. Trained as a graphic designer at the Elisava School in Barcelona, she focused her professional career on graphic design, specializing in branding, corporate communication, and editorial layout.
After twenty years running her own design studio, she graduated with a degree in Art History from the University of Barcelona, with the sole purpose of understanding the reason behind her fascination with art. Always connected to artistic creativity, her childhood games revolved around colors and shapes, with paintbrushes and linoleum sheets being her favorites. This need to explore different artistic techniques has provided her with a wide variety of creative paths, ultimately leading her to focus on printmaking. Its broad range of disciplines allows her to work on her own graphic imagery from different starting points—but this time, without the need to meet a specific objective, and purely for the sake of creative pleasure.

" My training in graphic design clearly shapes my synthetic perspective and my search for the essence of form.
This Suprematist gaze is reinforced by an orderly and structured character of German ancestry, resulting in a body of work close to Neoplasticist abstraction, with bold and powerful shapes and colors. It is a visual language that strips away the superfluous to focus on the absolute essence of form.
These works, organized by prioritizing form and color in search of a harmonious formal balance, are enriched by the introduction of different materials that bring distinct qualities and textures to my pieces. This yields a synthetic, personal, and colorful artistic language.
This approach represents an anti-tragic vision of art, where the work is not understood as an emotional release, but rather as a visual metaphor for spiritual balance.
My multidisciplinary profile determines my creative rhythm, always taking nature as a starting point. Simple, inanimate shapes acquire soul and value through my interpretation. Synthesizing what nature offers us opens up a vast creative path.
Of shifting scale… images of nature that, by eliminating detail or zooming in on it, offer us a generous dance of chromatic shapes and figures with their own identity, without the need to "be." Whether we widen the focus or close it in, what the eye captures is a field of color."
